Cosmetics
Thanks to advances in modern dental materials and techniques, we can help you attain the smile you’ve always wanted. The contour, color, and alignment of your teeth can be changed by such cosmetic techniques as bleaching, bonding, veneers, and inlays.
Whitening/Bleaching can whiten your teeth 8-10 shades lighter! Bleaching lightens stains or discoloration and can be performed on natural teeth and teeth that have undergone root canal treatment.
Bonding
Bonding restores chipped, cracked, discolored, or misaligned teeth by rebuilding the surface with a composite or porcelain material.
Porcelain Veneers icluding LUMINEERS
Porcelain laminate veneers bond custom-made, tooth-shaped shells to correct or camouflage discoloration, damage, or misalignment.
Inlays
Inlays and onlays are tooth-colored or gold restorations that are used on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They can be placed instead of silver fillings or to replace existing silver fillings.
Preventive Care
Sealants
Dental sealants can provide a further layer of protection against cavities. The plastic coating is painted on the grooved chewing surfaces of the back teeth. This is a painless proceedure!
Children’s Teeth
Children’s teeth begin forming before birth. As early as 4 months, the first primary, or baby teeth to erupt through the gums are the lower central incisors, followed closely by the upper central incisors. Although all 20 primary teeth usually appear by age 3, the pace and order of their eruption vary.
Oral care should begin soon after baby’s birth. Gums should be cleaned after each feeding. You can begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as they appear. To avoid baby bottle syndrome, babies should never be put in bed with a bottle of milk or juice.
Permanent teeth begin appearing around age 6, starting with the first molars and lower central incisors. This process continues until approximately age 21.
Adults have 28 permanent teeth or up to 32, including the third molars (or wisdom teeth).
Crowns
When a tooth is fractured, has a large, old filling, or is severely damaged by decay, your dentist may recommend the placement of a crown or cap. Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your smile.Types of crowns include the full-porcelain crown, the porcelain-fused-to-metal crown, and the all-metal crown. Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to the dentist’s office.
Bridges
Few incidents have greater impact on dental health and personal appearance than tooth loss. When one or more teeth are missing, the remaining teeth can drift out of position, which can lead to a change in the bite, the loss of additional teeth, decay, and gum disease.
When tooth loss occurs, your dentist may recommend the placement of a bridge. A bridge is one or more replacement teeth anchored by one or more crowns on each side.
Tooth Loss
Tooth loss can have a far-reaching effect on your dental health and personal appearance. When you lose one or more teeth, your remaining teeth can drift out of position. This can lead to a change in the bite, the loss of additional teeth, decay, and gum disease.
Dentures and Partial Dentures:
Our Dentures and Partials are made using the best materials available.
IMPLANTS
Dental implants can be an effective method to replace one tooth or several teeth. Each implant consists of a metal anchor that is inserted into the jawbone and a protruding post, which is outfitted with an artificial tooth. Implants can also support a bridge, replace a partial denture, or secure a fixed denture. The process requires surgery and may take up to 6 months to complete.
VELscope® Oral Cancer Screening Device
Now we have new wellness exam technology that dramatically improves our ability to screen for oral abnormalities that could lead to cancer. Because early detection is essential to increase chances for successful treatment, previously we always check your whole mouth (tongue, lips, cheek lining, and gums). We have acquired VELscope®, a state-of-the-art, painless, non-invasive screening tool that helps us to see what we can’t see with the unaided eye during your routine oral cancer checkup.
What can you expect during a VELscope examination? After conducting a thorough oral cancer examination, we’ll use a handheld device to shine a blue light into your mouth then examine the tissues through a special eyepiece. This technology takes advantage of your mouth’s natural fluorescence which is normally invisible. Using the blue light, however, we can look for specific changes in the color or structure of your oral tissues that might be indicative of abnormal cells. It takes only about five potentially life-saving minutes. The rapid spread of the Human Papilloma Virus is one cause for concern and the need for early detection.
HPV infection alert: Increasing numbers of young, non- smoking and non-drinking individuals are being diagnosed with oral cancer. The most likely causative factor is the HPV viral infection, the same virus responsible for 95% of all cervical cancer.
We want all of our patients to have a bright and smiling future. Recently, more than 25% of oral cancer victims have been under age forty and have none of the known lifestyle risk factors like tobacco, alcohol use, diabetes, or HIV. And because in its earliest, most treatable stages, oral cancer usually causes no pain or discomfort, we will perform the VELscope examination for all of our adult patients, 18 years and older, once a year at your dental cleaning appointment. The fee is $20.00 and currently is payable by some dental insurances. We recommend that you check with your company’s human resource department or dental insurance company on possible coverage.
